Zhou Xun uses her influence as one of China’s leading actresses to encourage people to reduce their carbon footprint through her promotion of ‘tips for green living’.
In 2008, Zhou Xun was named a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador for China whereupon she launched the Our Part campaign to educate people about eco-friendly living. The campaign encourages people to reduce their carbon footprint and fight against climate change through a more positive, simple, and effective change of lifestyle.
In 2010, Zhou won the UNEP Champions of the Earth Award for Inspiration and Action, for her strong focus on promoting green life style and environmental sustainability. The same year, she took part in an environmental protection themed photo shoot for Cosmopolitan, promoting a greener lifestyle. She was also the Green Ambassador for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai.
Zhou practices simple green habits herself such as refusing single use lunchboxes while shooting films and replacing disposable paper. She takes her own chopsticks, mugs and shopping bags with her wherever she goes and tries to convince others to use reusable products. Zhou plants three trees for every 200 km of her car travel and is planting many more to offset her flights from 2008. And when it’s feasible, she bikes or walks to her destinations.
