As the world becomes more globalised, logistics, freight and transport have a huge role to play in distributing products and people across the globe. Transport links form a vital part of the distribution networks, and have an embedded carbon footprint based on fuel usage and distance.
We are assessing organisation’s environmental impact through transport –aviation, vehicular or shipping – right from securing raw material up to the distribution of final products through retail networks. With fuel costs rising and an increasing strain on existing fossil fuel reserves, there is a strong business case to find the most efficient means of transport to minimise financial and environmental costs.
This construct will assess whether organisations have mapped the impacts of their transport mix and made adjustments towards higher efficiency. These could include, but is not limited to, changes in product packing or weight, using faster travel routes or changing the fuel mixture as possible.
