Nissan Motor Company recognises sustainable innovation as Associate Partner of the 7th International Green Awards™
LONDON November 16th 2012 – The International Green Awards™, the leading platform for sustainability intelligence, leadership and innovation is pleased to announce Nissan Motor Company as an Associate Partner. This partnership is particularly significant during the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All, a UN theme that the awards will showcase at this year’s ceremony.
In a bid to recognise sustainability wherever it occurs, the International Green Awards™ search the globe every year to find true influencers, leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators. The awards aim to discover and showcase genuine ‘game-changers’ in a way that will educate and inspire others towards positive change. Nissan aims to contribute to the sustainable development of society through its full range of global business activities in addition to providing value through its products and services. Its pioneering efforts to promote electric vehicles and to make mobility more affordable for people in emerging economies is part of its corporate social initiatives rooted in this vision.
Nissan believes in innovation, which is also an underpinning value of the International Green Awards™. Innovative thought is the key to sustainability and the Nissan LEAF embodies this in its entirety.
The International Green Awards™ will showcase the Nissan LEAF, the world’s first 100% electric, car designed for the mass market, at Battersea Power Station on Tuesday 20th November as part of the UN theme around sustainable energy. Powered by electricity and with a battery that can be charged at home, the Nissan LEAF offers a quiet, long-term solution to the issues of reducing CO₂ emissions and dwindling worldwide oil supplies in the transport sector.
Andy Palmer, Executive Vice President of Nissan, said: “Nissan Motor Company is pleased to support this global platform that is leading the way in bringing together, showcasing and celebrating the innovative achievements in sustainability around the world. The most successful businesses in the future will increasingly be those that are the most socially responsible as they get huge benefit from the powerful advocacy of their consumers, employees and wider society.”
The awards were judged by a global panel of influential and respected experts, advocates and spokespeople in international sustainability including the former Costa Rican President José María Figueres; former Executive Secretary to the UN Framework Convention on
Climate Change (UNFCCC), Yvo de Boer and Andrew Steer, President at the World Resources Institute (WRI). Receiving an International Green Award™ is certainly a prestigious accolade for any environmentalist or environmentally focused organisation, acknowledging key achievements and dedication in the area of sustainable innovation.
Iain Patton Founder & CEO commented “The continuing success of the International Green Awards™, the leading platform for sustainability intelligence, leadership and innovation underlines how important sustainability and responsible business has become globally.
Our international platform plays a crucial role in promoting the principles of environmental responsibility to a wider commercial audience. Awards have always been well placed to act as beacons of innovation and leadership as experts recognise organisations who are paving the way for a more sustainable future.”
