Richard Stathers – Head of Responsible Investment, Schroders

Over the last ten years Rick has overseen the successful development and implementation of Schroders’ Environmental, social and governance (ESG) process into its investment process. In this role, Rick has analysed, advised and encouraged global blue chip companies on how to improve their corporate responsibility processes in order to build resilience, throughout their value chains, to long-term sustainability issues; as well as developed toolsto integrate an analysis of these approaches into Schroders’ investment process.

“As the green message increasingly becomes mainstream there is a tendency to become complacent, to believe that we are doing enough. Yet greenhouse gas emissions, natural resource usage and pollution trends continue to go in the wrong direction. These trends, combined with population growth and economic development, mean that the need to develop a sustainable, equitable economy is now more pressing than ever. The INTERNATIONAL GREEN AWARDS™ help to showcase projects and initiatives that have gone beyond the green norms and truly communicate and understanding of what sustainability really means.”

In 2006, Rick co-proposed and developed Schroders award winning global climate change fund, on which he acts as a climate change specialist.  He has been a founder member of several industry initiatives including the Intuitional Investor Group on Climate Change and the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and has provided advice to numerous others.  Prior to joining Schroders Rick worked as an environmental consultant following the completion of his Masters in environmental technology.
